Timing Analysis

Observations of the brightness of a source as a function of time can also be referred to as a "time"series" of data. Scientists apply powerful mathematical tools to the analysis of a time series in order to determine whether the brightness of the source changes in a periodic or nearly-periodic fashion. One such powerful tool is called Fourier analysis, after the French mathematician Jean-Baptiste Fourier.
